Direct and Inverse Variation: Introduction
You may be familiar with the equation d = rt or distance equals rate multiplied by time. It is commonly used to find how far you have traveled depending on your rate and the amount of time you have traveled. What you may not have known is that this is an example of a direct variation. The distance d varies directly as time t because as time increases so does the distance traveled. In this section we will look at direct variation and its counterpart, inverse variation.
