Before we begin working on this section, let’s go back and practice solving equations. This will be an important skill as we work on solving systems of equations.
Solve 5x + 2 = 2x – 8.5x + 2 – 2x = 2x – 8 – 2x
3x + 2 = -8
3x + 2 – 2 = -8 – 2
3x = -10

Solve 3(2 – 4x) + 3 = 3x – 2(5x + 3).6 – 12x + 3 = 3x – 10x – 6
9 – 12x = -7x – 6
9 – 12x + 7x = -7x – 6 + 7x
9 – 5x = -6
9 – 5x – 9 = -6 – 9
-5x = -15x
x = 3
