Store Hours in Germany and German-speaking Countries
While opening hours are no longer as restricted as they where years ago, 24 hour service is still unheard of. Bigger supermarkets and stores are usually open until 8 PM during the week, 6 or 8 PM on Saturdays. Smaller stores still close at 6 or 7 PM during the week and 2 PM on Saturdays. Almost all stores are closed on Sundays. Some bakeries are open from 8 – 10 AM on Sundays. The only place to buy groceries on a Sunday afternoon in Germany is the gas station.
Unfortunately, this trash can is the only thing open around the clock in the Austrian capital of Wien!
