German Department Stores

This picture shows a C&A department store, one of the chains that you are most likely to find in every big city’s downtown. Some other popular store chains and independent stores are:

Alsterhaus - A department store in Hamburg, belonging to the Karstadt group.
Breuninger - 10 luxury department stores with head office in Stuttgart.
Carsch Haus - A department store in Düsseldorf belonging to the Kaufhof group.
Galeries Lafayette Berlin - Berlin branch of the French department store.
Hertie - Relaunched in Germany in 2007, 74 former (smaller) Karstadt stores are now Hertie again.
Karstadt - The leading German department store group.
Kaufhof / Galeria Kaufhof - Daughter of the Metro group.
Müller - Not really a department store, more a large pharmacy that sells several additional goods such as housewares, multi-media, toys.
Wertheim - Karstadt runs two department stores in Berlin under this traditional name.
