First Aid Kits

School nurses will provide to each teacher a basic first aid kit for use in the

classroom. A First Aid kit for the classroom should be in a closeable bag or

container, easily assessable to all, and includes:

Band-Aids, various size bandages to cover a wound

Basic care instructions, i.e., students are encouraged to cleanse their own

minor wounds with soap and water. Gauze is provided to help cleanse the

injured area. Anyone assisting is to use gloves for their own and the other’s

protection. Hands of both the student and anyone assisting should be

washed after attending to any wound. Minor cuts and scrapes may be taken

care of in the classroom, without nursing intervention. Students with injuries

that seem more than minor should be referred to the school nurse.
