In Venezuela, recreational activities are often done during holidays and weekends. During the week, Venezuela’s workforce focuses on 2 major areas: public service and oil production. Professions in public service include health care, education, transportation and retail. While there are other professions, oil production is a major source of employment and revenue in Venezuela. According to the U.S. Energy Information Association, Venezuela is in the top 10 oil producing countries in the world and is one of the founding countries of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). However, as a member of OPEC, Venezuela has had to reduce oil production numbers which has affected the nation’s budget (due to oil nationalization) and revenue.
