De La o Del
Take a look at these 2 sentences:
La escuela está cerca de la piscina.
La escuela está cerca del café.
By this point, you might already realize why there are such differences between what we see in these examples and what you viewed in the previous presentation. If the noun is preceded by "la", we will need to say "de la" but if it is preceded by "el," we will say "del." This is a contraction in Spanish and must always be used, unlike English (where we have the option of using the contraction or not.)
