Conjugation Pattern
Can you tell what the conjugation pattern is? I know it is not very simple, but there are some rules of conjugating into てform. The conjugation is determined based on the three verb categories: irregular verbs, る verbs and う verbs?
1. Irregular verbs: There are two irregular verbs in Japanese. You need to memorize this irregular verb formation.
する | して |
くる | きて |
もってくる > もってきて
A verb もってくる to bring is a compounded verb of もつ to hold and くるto come, so てform of
もってくる is もってきて.
2. るverbs:
食べる | 食べて |
きる | きて |
かける | かけて |
いれる | いれて |
つける | つけて |
みせる | みせて |
るverbs: るbecomes て.
3. うverbs:
飲む | 飲んで |
すむ | すんで |
かぶる | かぶって |
とる | とって |
はく | はいて |
すく | すいて |
かわく | かわいて |
There are several patterns in う verbs, as follows:
う、つ、る > って
む、ぶ、ぬ > んで
く > いて
ぐ > いで
す > して
There is one exception: いく (to go) > いって
