Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Awareness: Medicine and Drugs in General

Problems with Prescriptions and OTC Medication

There are problems that can occur when you take medicines. Some people experience allergic reactions, such as rashes, itching, or even difficulty breathing. Allergic reactions are not common though.

The more common problem with medication are the side effects. The side effect reaction differs from person to person. For example, some people who take an antihistamine may become very drowsy. Others may not even notice a difference.

The last issue is drug interaction. Certain medicines can cause reactions with other medicines, food, or supplements. For example, if you are taking medicine to help you sleep, you shouldn’t take an antihistamine that makes you sleepy at the same time.
