First Aid and CPR: First Aid

Tutorial iconTutorial: Controlling Bleeding

Bleeding finger

Major bleeding is a life-threatening situation, and must be immediately treated. When the body loses excessive blood, the body adapts quickly by going into shock. Factors such as age and physical condition affect how quickly this occurs. Children and the elderly can be affected more quickly because they have less blood or weakened circulatory systems. In any case, the severe blood loss must be controlled quickly to prevent shock and death.

View the tutorial below on what to do for someone who is bleeding. It is a good idea to take notes while watching as you will be responsible to know the proper procedure.
