Tutorial: Traumatic Shock

When a person experiences a traumatic event, either physical or psychological, the body goes into a survival mode (flight or fight). It slows down delivery of blood and therefore oxygen, to the less vital organs, such as the skin and stomach, to preserve the vital organs such as the heart, lungs, and brain. If this continues uninterrupted, the body goes into shock. Blood pressure drops, the heartbeat increases and a person will feel faint, nauseous, and disoriented. Whether caused by physical injury or emotional trauma, untreated shock can lead to death. It must be a consideration in the treatment of all serious injuries and events.
View the tutorial below on what to do for someone who is in shock. It is a good idea to take notes while watching as you will be responsible to know the proper procedure.
