Have you ever traveled to a foreign country?  While you are in a foreign country, you must pay for things with the currency of that country.  You can take your American dollars and exchange them into the currency of the country you are visiting.  In order to compare the currency to the dollar, you need to know the exchange rate.  Once you know the exchange rate, you can use ratios and proportions to calculate what a given amount is worth.  In this section, we will work with ratios and proportions to solve these sorts of problems.
