Section One - Part B Mon ou ton ? When Alice introduced us to her family, she used mon, ma, and mes to talk about her family members. Mon père s'appelle Thierry. In French, we will use one of three words to talk about things that belong to "me": mon frère ma soeur mes parents We use mon for masculine singular nouns; ma for singular feminine nouns and mes for any plural nouns. When a feminine noun begins with a vowel sound, we use mon even though though the noun is feminine. mon amie Answer the following questions about your family. Oui, j'ai des cousins. 7. Comment s'appelle ton oncle? Mon oncle s'appelle Dennis. 8. Comment s'appelle ta tante? Ma tante s'appelle Kathy. 9. Combien de cousins est-ce que tu as? J'ai trois cousins. Use mon, ma or mes to talk about "my" family members. Use ton, ta or tes to talk about "your" family members. La date Let's review talking about the date in this activity. It's April thirtieth. C'est le trente avril. It's May tenth. C'est le dix mai. It's June sixteenth. C'est le seize juin. It's December twenty-fifth. C'est le vingt-cinq décembre. Complete the dates in French. Click on the English date to see if you are correct. January 10 C'est le dix janvier. October 2 C'est le deux octobre. March 20 C'est le vingt mars. November 13 C'est le treize novembre. Remember that in French, we simply use the "le" number + month to say the date except for the first day of each month. That is le premier ... Now, review the months of the year in this activity. Practice Use this practice session to become familiar with the concepts of this lesson module. Le projet Your project in this unit is going to be to research the French Holidays. You will do specific research to find out about French Holidays and celebrations and then compare them to your own. You will need to describe each holiday/celebration and include pictures that will show: Family celebrations Family traditions and customs Family relationships You will need to have an essay of at least 200 words in English. You need to find information and pictures for at least four different French holidays or celebrations. You will need to describe each holiday/celebration along with include pictures that will help you describe the traditions represented in the holiday or celebration.
