Project AssignmentLe projet
In this Unit, your project is going to be fun and interesting. You are to choose a country--you can choose any country where French is spoken. You will do a research project on that country's foods and beverages. In your research, you will need to find pictures of at least four typically eaten foods in that country, and at least two beverages. Find a recipe for at least one of the foods and prepare it. You will need to have a finished product of at least 200 words in English. The project will have four deadlines:

  1. Deadline 1: Country idea --what country do you choose? (5 points)
  2. Deadline 2: Outline (5 points)
  3. Deadline 3: Rough draft (5 points)
  4. Deadline 4: Final project: (25 points)

The fourth deadline is due now. This assignment is worth 25 points.

CultureLe fromage
There are some 400 kinds of cheese in France. You might find that to be amazing but to the French it is just cheese. They are crazy about their cheeses. Different areas in France have their own kinds of cheese and many dairies and cheese producing families are still producing cheese on their own family farms today.

Most French people eat cheese with every meal. In fact, having over 400 kinds of cheese, you could eat a different kind of cheese every day of the year and not run out or have to eat the same cheese twice.

French CheesesHave you ever had the chance to try French cheeses? Many of them are very strong, just as the French like them. Some very well known cheese are Brie, Camembert and Roquefort. Several large grocery store chains in the United States carry some French cheeses so it might be an interesting thing for you to try sometime while you are out.

The French have many sayings that help tell the rest of the world their feelings about cheese. One such saying is one that we are going to memorize now in French. Listen to it by clicking on the first couple of words. Listen to it until you become familiar with it.

Un repas sans fromage est comme une journée sans soleil. A meal without cheese is like a day without sun.

Speaking
When you feel comfortable with the saying in French, record yourself saying it for your teacher and submit it to the dropbox. This assignment is worth 12 points.

 Discussion AssignmentDiscussion Assignment
Go to the discussion area and submit a posting asking at least four questions using this unit's vocabulary, talking about meals and foods in French. While you are there, take time to respond to two posts by some other student. If there are no other posts at this point, visit the area later to respond to two questions.
