Section One - Part D

Où es-tu et pourquoi?

Look at the picture and say where you are and why. Here's how you do it:

  • use parce que - because - to give the explanation
  • use j'ai besoin de - I need. Example: j'ai besoin de retirer de l'argent.

If you find an activity such as this one challenging, you probably need to spend more time learning the vocabulary.

bank
flower shop
hospital
music store
post office
pharmacy

Did you wonder why you say j'ai besoin de (or d' in front of a vowel) but the next verb is in the "infinitive" (-er, -ir, re) form? Think about what the words mean. J'ai besoin d'acheter, I need to buy. Acheter is that "to buy" form of the verb. Generally when there are two verbs together, the first one is in a form to agree with a subject pronoun but the other one is in the infinitive form. You saw this also in j'aime écrire --I like to write. If you have trouble with any of these concepts, don't hesitate to ask your teacher for help.

Continue practicing with those sentences. Now see if you can say that Ce monsieur in place of yourself. Then try le monsieur et la dame.
