Section Warm-Up
Your road to writing discovery can be exciting, but keep a keen eye open for obstacles. The path laid out for you in the following research process map is meant to make the journey smooth. Click to open the map and view it. Take a few minutes to read each of the stops on the map to see what to expect from the process. The stars on the map represent actions and activities you will complete. The cut-off rectangles represent documents that you will submit as assignments for this unit. The map is color-coded to show you how the writing process will guide you.
This map and the process it outlines can best be summed up with this mnemonic device:

- Discover your topic (question web).
- Gather your information (information search).
- Read to inform yourself (immersion).

- Dig deep for answers to your pyramid questions (citation chart).
- Organize your information (graphic organizer).
- Construct your thesis/hook/support/evidence/conclusions (draft).

Now, view the Research Presentation Process List to get an explanation of each step on the map. You can come back to this map any time during the unit to see how you are progressing and to find out where your writing will take you next.
