Rivers and Streams

In the pictures above, which one is the river? Which one is the stream? Which one is a creek?
 
The one on the left is a creek; the one on the right is a river. Rivers are larger than creeks, but both are examples of streams.

A stream is any flowing body of water and may include tiny creeks or large rivers. A river is just a large stream. Streams that are smaller than a river are called creeks and streams that are even smaller than a creek are called brooks.

Rivers are found all over the world and come in a wide variety of sizes. Watch the slideshow and note the similarities and differences between each river.  See if you can tell what kind of environment each river is in or what type of river it is.
