Rivers and Groundwater Systems: Rivers

avatar Avatar: Stream Deposition

On an inner tube trip down a river, you will eventually come near the end of the river where the ride is not much fun anymore. The water is moving so slowly it is practically still. In the lower parts of a river, the gradient is low and the river’s velocity is slowed.  As it slows down, a river deposits many of the sediments it picked up. This deposition of sediment leads to the formation of several distinct landscape features associated with rivers. The presentation goes over some of these features.
