Liberals and Conservatives
At the very beginning of this course you were introduced to the topic of liberals and conservative in American politics. Do American’s think in ideological terms? In The American Voter published in the 1950s, the answer was no; only 12 percent of the electorate voted in ideological terms. In a follow-up study, The American Voter Revisited using data from the 2000 election found 20 percent of Americans vote based on ideology.
