Public Opinion: Introduction

So how do we know how people feel about politics and how do we convey that to government officials? And why is this important? Public opinion polls convey peoples’ attitudes to citizens and government policymakers alike. Participation in politics or lack of participation is significant in getting action from your government. If citizens don’t participate and don’t pay attention, then the government would be running everything with no input from citizens, meaning no democracy.
