Discussion: Power Struggles in the News Today 10 points

One of the strengths of our Constitution has been its ability to change to meet the needs of a modern nation. But the issues of power and who has it haven’t gone away. The measures the framers used to balance power to prevent its abuse: the separation of powers, checks and balances and federalism all continue to present challenges for us today.

Review national media websites for articles or newscasts that shed light on a current issue which presents a challenge to this balance of power.

Check out this list of recent news articles dealing with federalism from the Bill of Rights Institute.

Write a short summary of the article and explain why this particular issue is an example of how the separation of powers, the system of checks and balances, or federalism continues to create tension between either branches of government or levels of government today. Post the summary to the discussion, and be sure to include the URL for your source in your post.
