Reading Assignment
Read pages 2-11 in your text before completing the rest of this section. The section activities will require that you are able to readily access the information.
Consider these questions to guide your thinking about this section:
- What are the roots of American government?
- What are the philosophical origins of American government?
- What defines American political culture and what are the tenets of American democracy?
- What is the role of political ideology in the United States and the world?
- What are the changing characteristics of the American people?
Some students prefer to take notes while they are reading. If you do so, you might try using the two-column Cornell format. In this format the page is divided into two columns, Take notes from the text in the wide column and list topics, key words, questions and cues in the first, narrow column. Take notes from activities or tutorials in the same way, and when you study for the test you can line up the recall columns by topic, to make studying more efficient. Here are some Web sites for more explanation.
