Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM) education is the
intentional interdisciplinary approach to
learning where the core curriculum is coupled
with real-world project-based learning using
the Engineering Design Process to develop
STEM Literacy. STEM literacy is the ability to
identify, apply, and integrate concepts from
science, technology, engineering and
mathematics to understand complex
problems and to innovate to solve them.
DoDEA STEM Education
is an educational
program designed to provide students with opportunities to be successful in the fields of
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Our purpose is to ignite the
passion of students to pursue education and careers in STEM disciplines. The three goals
of DoDEA STEM Education are to:
•
Create K-12 student interest, participation, and achievement in higher levels of
math, science, and technology through the engineering design process,
•
Attract and retain students to STEM fields with a focus on underrepresented and
female populations, and
•
Support the national security focus on the shortage of STEM professionals.
