Engage: Sea Floor Structures

The structure of the ocean floor is largely shaped by the process of plate tectonics.  For this reason, the major features of the sea floor are similar around the world.  The sea floor is divided into two main areas:  the continental margins which border the continents, and the deep-sea floor.  Before you move on to the next sections, take this "virtual dive" to see some of the structures you might see on the sea floor.

Next, please click the menu item under Lessons, titled Sea Floor Structures to learn about the structure of the sea such as Continental Margins, Ocean Basins, and Ridges and Vents.
