Thomas Alva Edison

Thomas Alva Edison was an inventor who was able to set up a laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey and dedicate his life to inventing things. He used knowledge of electrical technology with many of his inventions. He invented a projector, a mimeograph to copy paper, and an electric typewriter. He is most notably known for inventing and patenting the light bulb. He also invented light switches and improved electrical wiring. Lewis Latimer, the son of escaped slaves from Virginia, was the inventor who improved the manufacturing of the carbon filament in light bulbs. He is noted for advancements in the quality of the light bulb.

Another invention on the verge of being made was the airplane. Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright began experimenting with kites and gliders in the late nineteenth century. Their experiments finally paid off in the twentieth century when they began to take passengers on short flights in 1905.
