Reconstruction: Introduction
In this section, we will explore America in the years following the Civil War. We will investigate the social upheaval of the New South and examine the role of the federal government in the rebuilding of Southern infrastructure and the protection of newly-freed people. Lastly, we will identify how the Reconstruction period provided opportunities for many. We will also see that in order for the states to come back together, the period had to end so that the country could function again as one union.
