Pets
As in the United States, it is common in Japan for people to have a pet. Can you guess what some of the most common pets are in Japan? If you guess dogs and cats, you are correct. Even though Japanese people don’t have much space in their houses or they live in apartment buildings, interest in pets is increasing. Other pets such as fish (goldfish, carp and tropical fish), small birds (canaries, parakeets and Java sparrows), turtles, frogs, hamsters and insects (crickets, beetles etc.) are also common. Some people also enjoy “virtual” pets such as “Tamagotchi” and “Nintendog”.

discussionDiscussion 1D
Go to the discussion board for Section 1, Part D, and post. Talk about whether or not you have a pet. If you do, describe in as much detail as you can about your pet including size and color. If you do not, imagine that you want a pet and talk about the pet you would like to have. This assignment is worth 8 points.

Let's describe the animals
Look at the picture of the animal and click on it to listen to its description in Japanese. Click on the "answer” to see the written description of the animal.
