Preventing Disease: Infectious and Non-infectious Disease

Chicken Pox, Mumps, Measles

Chickenpox is a viral infection that most young children are vaccinated against. This contagious disease causes red, itchy bumps all over the body. Mumps and measles are viral infections that are life-threatening if left untreated. Most young children are immunized against mumps and measles when entering school programs.

Vaccines will not guarantee you 100 percent disease protection, but if all children are vaccinated against a particular disease, then the disease is less likely to survive. That's why vaccinating an entire population is so important.
