The earth is shaped like a giant sphere.  Although it is impossible to measure the diameter of the earth directly, scientists can calculate the diameter using basic geometric formulas.  In this unit, you are going to learn the formulas they use as well as formulas for other three-dimensional figures.  By the end of this unit, you will be able to take information about the earth and calculate the diameter.
