key conceptMa veste ou ta veste?

There are a couple of ways to show possession in French. One way is to use a word like mon/ma or ton/ta. But what if the item is not mine or yours? Then we need to say it belongs to someone else. In English, we show possession with an apostrophe, then s. Pablo's, my dad's, etc. There is no apostrophe in French. In order to show possesion in this way in French, we say it like this:
C'est la veste de Paul.
It's the coat of Paul.
(It's Paul's coat.)

In these examples, see if you can say who the items belong to.

belt Paul
jacket Janine
dress Michelle
raincoat Yann

There's a slight change if we are saying that more than one item belongs to someone:

Ce sont les chaussettes de Paul.
They're the socks of Paul.
(They're Paul's socks.)

Now see if you can say that these items belong to the people shown:

gloves Paul
pants Janine
sandals Michelle
socks Yann
