Feedback
-Giving students an explanation of what they are doing correctly AND incorrectly.
-Offered with the intention of improving the final product.
Feedback must be formative, the students should be able to show improvement (growth) from a comment given. Why should feedback be formative? Well because it is meant to increase student understanding prior to any summative assessment we may implement. This is why we always strive to provide “timely” feedback. Feedback is only useful if it is applied to the student’s processes prior to summative assessment.
Giving feedback about small steps helps students who would be overwhelmed by having to improve in many areas at once.
Feedback should attempt to inspire students to finish (edit) their work and turn it in again or improve on a concept prior to moving on.
