Expansion and Power (continued)

The British and French would soon realize that they had misjudged Hitler and their own instincts. A few months after Hitler had assumed control of the Sudetenland, the German dictator annexed the rest of Czechoslovakia. The British and French realized that their earlier strategy was a mistake and they were going to have to act more aggressively. They warned Hitler that if he continued his hostility, war would ensue. The two nations further pledged their support to the Polish. Hitler ignored their threats and signed a treaty with the Russians that gave him an all-access pass to the East. On September 1, 1939, England and France declared war on Germany.
