Adams-Onis Treaty

In the treaty, Spain agreed to cede Florida to the United States, as well as to release its hold on the Pacific Northwest. As a result, the United States now held control of land from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, the treaty amended the boundary between the Louisiana Purchase and the Spanish territory in the West. However, the United States would have to relinquish its claim to parts of what would become Texas.
