When you begin to meet people who speak Japanese, or if you are traveling in their country, you will need to know things about a city. Let's learn the names of the places in a city. Look and listen to the names of the places in the following chart. Be sure to repeat after the speaker.

* Loanwords from foreign languages such as English are written in katakana. Until you learn katakana, the words will be written both katakana and hiragana. A bar, ―, means a long vowel: for example, プール(puuru) and ビーチ (biichi).
