Conversation
The following questions are going to be our focus in Section Two.
Click the Play button to listen to the Japanese sentence recordings. Repeat saying the sentence after each recording several times until you become comfortable saying each sentence. Then click each image to see the English equivalents.
NOTE: の is a possessive marker as in “たなかさんの しゅっしん,” Tanaka san’s hometown. In Japanese we seldom call our listener “you.” Instead, we use his or her name
どこに すんでいますか。 |
おなまえは なんですか。 |
たなかさんの しゅっしんは どこですか。 |
Where do you live? | What is your name? | Where are you from, Tanaka san? |
Practice Asking "Where are you from?"
Using the names of the individuals below, ask the people in spoken form, where they are from. You are now able to read the person's name written in Japanese, so reading aid is provided only for the city names. Then answer the question, as well.
When you finish, click the Play button next to each question to hear the answer.
