Safety at Home
Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if you are keeping yourself safe at home:

- Never leave a candle burning unattended.
- Turn off stoves and stovetops when not in use.
- Make sure no one falls asleep with a cigarette burning.
- Store matches out of reach of children.

- Keep stairways well lit and clutter free.
- Keep the floors clean.
- Use a sturdy step stool when reaching for high items.

- Keep all medications and toxins in childproof containers and out of reach.
- Store all toxic home supplies in their original containers and out of reach of children.
- Never mix household chemicals.
- Use adequate ventilation when working with toxic substances.
Safety in the Community
Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if you are keeping yourself safe in your community:

- Stay in specified use areas.
- Be knowledgeable about poisonous plants and animals.
- Be cautious around wildlife.
- Use extreme caution around campfires and when participating in outdoor sports.

- Learn how to swim.
- Swim only in designated areas, where a lifeguard is on duty.
- If you get a cramp, relax, float, and massage the muscle until it relaxes.
- Learn how to properly handle a boat or watercraft before using one.
- Never ride in a water vehicle with someone who is impaired by alcohol or drugs.

- Pay attention to your vehicle and your ability to control it.
- Pay attention to other drivers.
- Always use a seatbelt.
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Pay close attention to road conditions and driving signs.
