Can you identify three patterns that might help you remember? Look at
the numbers and when you think you've found them, click here.
The numbers from 1 to 16 are unique. Some of
them are identical, or even similar, to their English equivalents, some
are completely different. You just have to memorize them.
The numbers 11 through 16 have their own words. Then 7, 8 and 9 are
hyphenated onto the word "ten".
21 and 31 take an additional -et- between the tens and the
ones. This will also be true for , 41, 51, and 61.
As a child, you learn numbers very young. They are so engrained and so
automatic that it is hard to count in another language, even though the
concept itself is familiar. This is one of those areas where you are just
going to have to memorize!
Au
Travail! Write this exercise in your notebook.
When you've finished, check your answers by clicking on the word to see
if you got it right.
Now let's complicate our math problems a bit. See if you can add these
numbers in French. Write your answer, then click each one to see if you
are correct.
Use the following vocabulary: plus for "plus" and
font (literally, "make") for "equals."
17 + 7 = 24dix-sept
plus sept font vingt-quatre 12 + 9 = 21douze
plus neuf font vingt-et-un 20 + 10 = 30vingt
plus dix font trente 14 + 13 = 27quatorze
plus treize font vingt-sept 27 + 2 = 29vingt-sept
plus deux font vingt-neuf 18 + 4 = 22dix-huit
plus quatre font vingt-deux
