What is Art? (continued)
Another example might be a wooden household item created in early Africa, such as a spoon or bowl. An archeologist who uncovered the artifact might have been awe-struck by the decorative pattern or unique characteristics of the object. However, the African who made the object would have done so for a particular function; perhaps to eat with it or use it in a ceremony honoring a deceased ancestor. The concept of art in Western and non-Western cultures varies, especially in earlier times.
