Classical Era (1750-1820): Introduction

The Baroque era was a time of ornamentation, which peaked towards the end of the period. This peak was called the Rococo. Music and art alike were highly ornamented, especially in France.

From 1750-1820, society moved away from the ornamented styles of the Baroque and Rococo, choosing a cleaner style similar to classical Greece. The new aristocrats (wealthy) were now hiring musicians, which once again altered the type of music that was composed. Dances were more popular. Music from the Classical era was more spare, more reserved, and more controlled.
