Algebra 1: Solving Systems : Introduction

Unit 6: Solving Systems

In the real world of finance, business, medicine, etc., many different quantities are compared to each other. Many times this involves looking at two different equations or inequalities and coming up with a solution that satisfies both. Some examples of this might include:

  • A nurse practitioner using a patient’s weight and medical history to figure out the amount and type of medicine to prescribe for a patient.
  • A business analyst looking at the profit and the expenses in a company to decide on the best way to balance these.
  • A tax analyst looking at the client’s income and deductions to best advise the client for the next year.

There are countless other examples, but you get the idea of how two items must be balanced against each other to come up with a common solution. This unit will cover a number of ways how algebra can help solve these problems.

Unit 6 includes:

Section 1: Systems of Equations
Section 2: Solving Systems
Section 3: Systems of Inequalities
Section 4: The Matrix
Section 5: Statistics

Grades:

Each graded item is worth a certain number of points. The points you earn are divided by the total possible points, and then converted to a percentage.

Grade (%) = Points Earned ÷ Points Possible

In Unit 6, these are the graded items and the points possible for each.
