Online courses offer students opportunities to learn in new ways and make learning available to many who cannot attend a traditional class in a brick-and-mortar school. However, online courses require students to be self-motivated in completing assignments and have a sincere desire to participate in all online learning activities throughout the duration of the online course. In general, the successful online student should possess the following attributes:

Has a sincere desire to learn and participate in class activities.

Maintains self-discipline and avoid procrastination.

Communicates effectively with instructors.

Is self-directed and self-motivated in his/her approach to learning.

Possesses effective study skills and habits.

Enjoys working independently and pacing his/her own learning.

Fulfills course requirements in a timely manner.

Has the ability to read carefully and follow written instructions.

Possesses basic computer skills.

Understands how to use e-mail and navigate the world wide web.
