Vocabulary: Introduction
In the last unit, you learned about how to use context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words. You should remember that this skill is a valuable tool for figuring out the meaning of words as you read. In this unit, you will encounter many strange vocabulary words within the texts. You will need to rely on your knowledge of context clues to read effectively.
In addition to context clues, other vocabulary skills can help expand your knowledge of words. Working with analogies is one of these valuable skills that you will learn about in this unit.
Analogies show relationships between words. They also can help you figure out the meaning of a new word if you can figure out the relationship between the other words in the analogy.
