Electrostatics: Introduction

Electrostatics

Static. You’ve probably heard the concept—and likely have been shocked by it before if you’ve ever walked across a carpet in the dry winter. You’ve seen it in thunder storms when lightning strikes, discharging a charge build-up in the clouds. You may have also experienced it as you comb your hair in the morning or put on clothes with a static charge build-up.

In this unit, you will learn how those charge build-ups happen. You will also learn to define charge, electric fields, voltage, and energy associated with charges.
